How you can save Big on your Painting Projects!
Book Early!- Many people make the mistake of waiting until the last minute to contract with a Painting professional. Contractors usually start booking their schedules early in the season. If you book early ( when their work may be slower) you usually can get the slower season rate.
Peak season for Exteriors in the Vancouver/ Portland area is usually between June 1- September 15. If you wait until then to hire a Painting Professional- you will very likely pay more. ( supply and demand!)
Schedule INTERIOR work for the rainy season. If you need the INTERIOR of your house painted and its Peak EXTERIOR season- book early and schedule your job for a date AFTER the peak season is over. Most Painting Professionals prefer to get all of their Exterior work done in the peak season. You will pay much more if you want an Interior done during peak season.
Schedule EXTERIOR jobs BEFORE the peak season starts. Or AFTER the peek season is done.
Compare quality of Paints before you hire your Painting Professional. Many contractors will offer a lower price on a job- at the expense of quality paint! Dont do it! It will cost you BIG $$$! Paint is the least expensive part of a great paint job. Accept the higher bid that INCLUDES the better quality paint.
Compare coats. What really is 2 coats? Many contractors will state 2 coats in their bid- but will simply make 2 passes over a section with their spray gun. Technically this is 2 coats and it can be a nice lower cost alternative for those with tighter budgets. But for Best Durability most paint manufactures recommend 2 coats- WITH DRYING TIME BETWEEN COATS! This means the Painting Professional paints a section ( or the whole house); allows a pre-determined amount of time to pass (1-4 hours); and then paints it again. If your Painting Professional is offering 2 coats with drying time at a slightly higher price- DO IT! This may extend the life of the paint job by YEARS- saving you thousands of dollars, and the hassle of having to paint it again much sooner!
Choose a trusted Painting Professional that is well established. Hiring a new company may save you a little on your job but it could cost you in the long run. Are they going to be around in 3-5 years to honor the warranty you were given? Only time will tell. But a well established Painting Professional who has been serving an area for decades is likely not going anywhere. If a problem does arise during the warranty period they will be there to fix it- versus you having to pay someone else to do it.
